Choosing the Maldives as a honeymoon destination is an easy choice. Finding the right island and hotel is where it can be difficult to make the right decision. The Maldives is made up of 26 atolls with each atoll hosting more than 1000 islands so it is easy to become overwhelmed; as me and my husband found out. However, Maafushi Island in the South Atoll is the perfect place to choose if you are looking for somewhere to completely unwind and relax in the most idyllic setting. The flight from Manchester to Male (the capital of the Maldives) took 13 hours in total with a change over in Dubai. We also took a sea plane from Male to Maafushi Island… It was a long journey but more than worth it!
Maafushi Island is home to the Constance Moofushi Resort, here you can stay in either a water villa or a beach villa. My husband and I stayed in a water villa and we were not disappointed- the water villa’s boast the most incredible views from their own private deck and have steps leading directly into the Indian Ocean. The rooms are fully air-conditioned (which you will definitely need as it never dropped below 30 degrees while we were there, despite it being Hurricane season) and included everything you would need during your stay…mainly a fully stocked minibar which is re-filled every morning. The rooms were bright and clean and fitted the theme of paradise perfectly. The rooms included a LCD TV, Mac Mini and Wifi as well as an outdoor shower in a private deck and sun loungers. Your room is cleaned twice a day which is probably unnecessary but it is greatly appreciated when they leave you little added touch’s such as slippers by your bed at night.
The resort provided us with snorkelling gear which we kept for our 2 week duration and it was definitely required, the snorkelling on this island is literally out of this world and you can step off your deck straight into a reef so you don’t have to go far! The resort host excursions to other reefs so that you can snorkel or dive in different reef’s in order to experience different fish. We snorkelled with turtles, black tipped reef sharks, sting rays, moray eels and hundreds of colourful fish and loved every minute of it! There are loads of other excursions you can try such as whale shark diving, etc and one excursion is included free of charge with your all-inclusive package!
My husband and I have never been on an all inclusive holiday before, we have always opted for self-catering in order to experience the native food so we were apprehensive about going all inclusive. However, I can honestly say it was the best decision we made (second to choosing Constance Moofushi Resort). The all inclusive package was literally that… everything was included. I have heard stories that all-inclusive deals usually leave out the good stuff but this package included everything from full bottles of amazing wine, spirits, cocktails to high tea in the afternoon. The food was amazing and they had a different theme of food each night, we were not disappointed with any of the food and although the main restaurant was buffet style most of the food was cooked fresh in front of you. I particularly enjoyed their Maldivian night as there was plenty of fresh fish and it was nice to experience the local cuisine which we thought we may have missed out on going all inclusive. As we were there for 11 nights in total we thought we may experience a repeat in the food, however, each dish was completely different even on the same ‘themed’ night. There was also an a la carte restaurant on the resort, where you dined directly on the beach. This was incredible and the food here was the best I’d ever had. We also made sure to take full advantage of the island’s sommelier and his knowledge of wines; he paired the perfect bottle of wine with the theme of the food for the night (you can choose from over 500 bottles of wine and they are all included in your all-inclusive).
The resort itself is absolutely stunning and photos as beautiful as they are do not do it justice at all, the island is literally soft white sand and turquoise water. My biggest piece of advice would be do not bring any shoes, you will definitely not need them! We did not wear a single pair of shoes the whole time, as even the restaurants were on the sand and it was so fine it felt like walking on talc.
The pool area was incredible, with an infinity pool overlooking the ocean. The pool area was always clean and well maintained, resort staff would come around the pool offering fresh fruit, juice, cold towels and bottles of water. The staff could not do enough for you and knew your name from the minute you landed to the minute you left.
When we told people we were going to the Maldives, people thought that we would be bored being on one resort, this was definitely not the case. If you could ever get fed up of relaxing on the beach or snorkelling the incredible reef’s or lounging by the pool with a cocktail in hand; you could always use the water sport equipment for free, we used the kayaks and the stand up paddle boards. Or you could get a massage while watching the fish swim by in the spa? You could do some wine tasting in the ocean with sharks swimming around your feet? Or do some sunset yoga? Or you have your own private cinema under the stars complete with champagne, popcorn and ice-cream!
These were just a few of the many things we took advantage of whilst we were there! As well as an on site Spa there was also a fully functional gym which was air conditioned, however, we only used this twice as we were far too busy enjoying the sunshine
There are so many reasons to choose Constance Moofushi Resort as your honeymoon destination or even just for a relaxing getaway. Constance Moofushi Resort is literally paradise, I completely fell in love with it and I would not choose anywhere else in the world to return to again and again!! The Maldives is just a beautiful paradise.
