Ah December, it was so fun whilst it lasted! Now we are in the depths of January, it’s still dark at 3pm, I’m still living in my dressing gown and fluffy slippers, and I’m still trying to get over the copious amount of food and drink I’ve consumed over Christmas.
It seems like every time you go on Insta, you find yourself scrolling through endless of feeds of people in exotic locations around the world and tanning their beautifully trim bodies. NOT FAIR.
And then to make January that little more depressing, we are gifted with Blue Monday – aka “The most depressing day of the year”.
What is Blue Monday you may ask?
Well, some clever clogs have identified January 18th as the most depressing day of the year. The contributing factors of ‘Blue Monday’ are; bad weather, debt, the amount of time elapsed since Christmas, failure of New Year’s Resolutions combined with feelings of low motivation and sadness. What was once a ‘one off’ (very smart) PR invention which marketers play on, is now an annual event.
So how can we get beat the January Blues?
My frank suggestion – get a holiday booked and get something to really look forward to.
It’s been revealed in recent studies that travel brings unparalleled levels of happiness. A global study by Booking.com found that not only taking a vacation rated as vital for our emotional well-being but 77% of people book a holiday just for a boost of happiness.
The study also established the emotional lift that anticipation of a holiday brings was also factored into the study with 72% of participants calming that they get an immediate high just from the excitement of researching a trip and over 56% are happiest when simply booking a holiday.
So there we have it and science doesn’t lie! For a quick pick-me-up, take to the internet, do your homework, and get kick off your 2018 in style, with a holiday.
